And She Created.....

Mixed Media
noun
the use of a variety of media in an
entertainment or work of art

Most of my work is unusual and eclectic; a bit outside the box. That's OK... it makes me happy and I love what I do!

I started getting into art in a very roundabout way. I never took any art classes in school (beyond the required elementary levels). I also was never one to sit and doodle or draw. In fact if I did try to put pen to paper, my drawings would look like scribbles and stick figures. THAT is the reason I was drawn to rubber stamping... it is a way to make art without having to be able to draw. I can create a beautiful piece of art just using stamps.

As the owner of a rubber stamp and scrapbook business (which in itself is a long story best saved for another blog entry) and the creator of upcycled jewelry, I found myself actually becoming involved in the "art world". I became fascinated with mixed media and salvage art. I didn't have to draw to make beautiful art? I could mix and piece things together?? So I did it... I created a couple of Mixed Media art pieces. One was a gift for my husband, and two were for an annual art contest at our local library.

My husband's gift was a shadow box; a personal record of all the military tours he did during his 23 years in the Air Force.

The piece that I submitted to the library contest in 2013 is called "Full Circle". The contest theme for 2013 was Journeys Taken. My piece was a history of the places I have lived that have become a part of my life. It won honorable mention in the adult division.

The piece I submitted to the library contest in 2014 is called "A Walk Through Old forge". The contest theme for 2014 was Times Gone By. I submitted a 3D Mixed Media shadow box made with vintage postcards of Old Forge. It won 1st place in the adult division.

My latest art is a more traditional Mixed Media composition. It is entitled "Dragonfly Wings". I tried some new techniques and used some of my new art supplies (Gelatos and watercolor paints). I also incorporated the dragonfly stamps from my line of rubber stamps. I will be making prints of this piece to sell in my shop.

I plan to continue exploring new techniques and tools to make different types if Mixed Media... and I plan on having lots of fun doing it!
